APT SKIDATA WINS PARKING CONTRACT FOR WESTFIELD DERBY

Derby is undergoing a £340 million redevelopment and extension of its Eagle Centre, set to completely regenerate the southern part of the city centre and offer Derby and the East Midlands a dynamic new shopping experience. The redevelopment will include the refurbishment of existing car parks and a new multi-storey car park – all of which will have parking technology from APT SkiData.

The Eagle Centre is owned by Westfield Group, one of the largest retail groups in the world with seven shopping centres in the UK. Along with its new look, the centre will also receive a new name – it is to become Westfield Derby and the first phase of the redevelopment is due to open in October 2007.

The new centre will have a diverse range of new retailers, a new food court, a 12-screen cinema and improved access. Serving the parking needs of visitors will be a variety of car parks with an additional 2,000 spaces – providing a total of 3,700 spaces feeding directly into the extended centre.

APT SkiData will be installing its well-proven APT 450 range in the newly built seven storey car park and will be replacing parking equipment at the existing underground and multi-storey car parks. In total APT will be installing nine entry columns and barriers, nine exit columns and barriers, and 29 automatic APM450 pay stations across the three car parks.

The APM450 station offers reliable technology for users to make payments either in cash (banknotes and coins) or by credit, debit or loyalty card. The pay station is also designed to accommodate the necessary user pin pad and the EMV control board should Chip and Pin be required. The pay stations are equipped with Coder Unlimited, APT SkiData’s new automated ticket handling technology, making it possible to process all kinds of ticket type, including mag-stripe, crosswise barcodes and also lengthwise barcodes.

The APM450 is part of APT SkiData’s proven APT 450 range, which is ideal for all types of installations from citywide car park networks and retail shopping centres to airports and hospitals. All the visible hardware elements of the range are manufactured from high-grade steel, cast aluminium and polycarbonate and require only minimal maintenance. With regard to their aesthetics and design, they still reflect the company’s renowned attention to detail and modern approach, with a grey, silver and charcoal colour scheme. The APT 450 software has been upgraded and now runs on Windows XP.
