APT SKIDATA COMPLETES INSTALLATION AT WESTFIELD DERBY

Derby city centre has undergone a £340 million redevelopment of its primary shopping district, with the refurbishment of the existing car parks and a multi-storey car park to meet visitor demand – all of which will have parking technology from APT SkiData.

The major shopping centre is owned by the Westfield Group and was opened in October 2007 with over 180 stores, the Showcase Cinema de Lux and the 12-outlet Eat Central. The Westfield Group is one of the largest retail groups in the world with seven trading shopping centres in the UK.

Serving the parking needs of visitors is a variety of car parks with an additional 2,000 spaces – providing a total of 3,700 spaces feeding directly into the extended centre.

APT SkiData has installed its well-proven APT 450 range in the seven-storey car park, and replaced parking equipment at the existing underground and multi-storey car parks. In total, APT has installed nine entry columns and barriers, nine exit columns and barriers, and 29 automatic APM450 pay stations across the three car parks.

Car Park Manager for Westfield Derby, Paul Barnes adds: “All of the equipment is working well, and we have successfully worked through the initial teething problems. I have been working in parking for 20 years, and with APT Skidata for 16 years and it is regarded as one of the best in the business.”

The APM450 station offers reliable technology for users to make payments either in cash (banknotes and coins) or by credit, debit or loyalty card. The pay station is also designed to accommodate the necessary user pin pad and the EMV control board should Chip and Pin be required. The pay stations are equipped with Coder Unlimited, APT SkiData's new automated ticket handling technology, making it possible to process all kinds of ticket type, including mag-stripe, crosswise barcodes and also lengthwise barcodes.

The APM450 is part of APT SkiData's proven APT 450 range, which is ideal for all types of installations from citywide car park networks and retail shopping centres to airports and hospitals. All the visible hardware elements of the range are manufactured from high-grade steel, cast aluminium and polycarbonate and require only minimal maintenance. With regard to their aesthetics and design, they still reflect the company's renowned attention to detail and modern approach, with a grey, silver and charcoal colour scheme. The APT 450 software has been upgraded and now runs on Windows XP.
