APT LAUNCES NEW RANGE OF ELECTRICAL VEHICLE (EV) CHARGING SOLUTIONS

APT Controls Group, the vehicle access and traffic systems provider, has signed an exclusive agreement with Circontrol of Spain to bring a new range of intelligent, proven recharging solutions for electrical vehicles to the UK.

Dermot Murphy, CEO of APT Controls Group, says that demand for electrical vehicle (EV) charging, although in its infancy, is set to change: “The Government is fully supportive both financially and environmentally to the scheme,” he says, “and the motor manufacturers have all publicly committed to the development and launch of EV's over the next three years*.

“The desire to promote a low carbon transport policy, and to back that desire with real investment, means that demand is already rising and likely to accelerate in the near future.”

Circontrol's systems are already widely used across Spain and Northern Europe and comprise three main product technologies: Slow charging points for use in domestic or workplace applications, often overnight; Fast charging points, for use while undertaking daily routines (eg shopping, leisure activities etc) and with a charging time of sub 60-minutes; and Rapid charging points when only a few minutes are required to recharge a vehicle mid-journey, perhaps at a motorway service station.

In broad terms, Mr Murphy believes that the market comprises four main segments: on-street, with projects backed almost exclusively by local authorities; off-street, in workplace or commercially-managed car parks; fleet depots, for public or private sector transport operators; and domestic, for the home charging of electric vehicles.

A new company - as part of the APT Controls Group - will be formed as a result of the agreement, and further technical and commercial teams are being recruited.

“Circontrol's technology is proven in Europe,” Mr Murphy concludes, “and with the strength of APT Controls' technical support and reputation in the traffic and vehicle management sector, we believe there is a natural synergy between the two businesses that bodes well for a successful future.”
