    1. I finished reading this book because it was about the Middle East, war, children and learning to communicate. Young adult literature about Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and even made-up places in the Middle East has the potential to be Important so I always try to read it. The best part was the back and forth between Adam and Walid, neither understanding the other due to language and culture. Walid would say "this goat, we must kill it and then we will have food"; Adam responds "yeah, its a [...]

    2. Set in an imaginary Arabic country, two boys, one Australian and one Bangladeshi, must try to survive in the desert during a war despite their different cultures and languages. The story is told in alternating first person voices of the two boys, distinguished by different fonts. It was amusing and interesting to see how their relationship evolves and how they learn to somewhat understand each other. I couldn't put this one down! It was very suspenseful. In fact, I read it in one sitting. I just [...]

    3. It was a really good book that my class read in school. I definitely recommend it. The book is based on the issues of communication and how sometimes miscommunication can be good. Have fun reading!

    5. This is a great novel for 10-12 years old. It tells the story of two boys, Adam from Australia and living in the middle east in a western compound, and Walid, a Pakistani boy who had been sold into slavery and lived as a camel rider. How the boys meet, and communicate despite not knowing each other's language makes a great story. The narrative flicks between the two characters, and each needs to overcome the prejudices they have about the other. This book is highly engaging, and great place to s [...]

    6. Good YA/MG books are entertaining for readers of any age, but you can't fault one of them for not being enjoyable for adults, since we're not their target audience. Camel Rider was set in a modern day, fictional city in the Middle East. The city gets bombed, and a western (Australian) boy escapes the city and wanders in the desert, nearly dying. At the same time, an Arabic boy sold into slavery makes a bad mistake and his owner leaves him out in the desert to die (which really had made no sense, [...]

    7. just a quick read I picked up at the library but has a sweet story. it's the first Middle Eastern themed book I've read and it's gaged my interest

    8. I wanted to like this book, but the plot just dragged. I think it was a good idea, but not my favorite writing.

    12. Camel riderThis review may contain spoilers Camel rider was an action filled, exciting book!I was amazed about what Adam and walid went through in the abudai deserts and still at the end of the book they came out a live at the end. I thought at the end they were going to be captured or be killed at the end the story fully changed around though. The action parts in the book were good like when they stole the car or when they were getting shot at from breath of dog and old goat. Some bits of the b [...]

    13. I found this while browsing the new book shelf--very dangerous! Told from the perspective of an Australian boy who is living in the fictional Mid-Eastern country, Abudai. Adam is supposed to go to Australia to attend boarding school. To avoid the inevitable, Adam has hidden his passport in his father's flight bag and is left in the family home while his mom goes to Australia, waiting for his father to return home and give him what for. In the desert not far from Abudai, Walid is about to tend to [...]

    19. I should preface this by explaining that I'm a K-12 school librarian, working at an international school in Abu Dhabi. This is a review I wrote for our school's computer catalog system. Great: a story set in a fictional copy of the UAE. Not so great: almost everything else about this book. The first problem is the name of the central city – Abudai. It sounds like Abu Dhabi and Dubai mashed together, which is probably what it is. The main event is a near-impossible war, started by some imaginar [...]

    20. Interesting international story, possibly OK for mature MG readers. Takes place in a fictional oil-rich Middle Eastern country near a city. Alternating 1st person narratives: Adam is rich, white Australian whose dad works in the industry-they live in an ex-pat compound. Walid is a Bangladeshi whose father died so mom needed to have him work as a camel rider. She didn't know (I think) that the owners would be incredibly cruel - this is outlined early on. Both boys are hot-headed and impulsive, wh [...]

    21. Camel Rider is a exciting book about a boy called Adam Mccourt who lived in a compound in Abudai. He ran away when was taken out without Tara, his dog because of that mean Mr. Hartliss. This book is really interesting because it explains survival, friendship & adventure. It can also show that if you met someone who speaks only a foreign language. The person they met who only speaks English, they try to communicate with each other. It’s a tough job but it can be a hard thing to do with othe [...]

    22. This story shows you how two boys can get along when they don't even speak the same language. Adam the boy from Australia who is in Abudai with his mum and Walid the camel rider on the outskirt of Abudai live with Old Goat and Breath of Dog (who he is not related to). So Walid and Adam met in a mountain after Old Goat had left Walid to die and Adam who had left his friends family after having escaped the beginning of a war in Abudai to find his dog who is back at his house. But ends up on a moun [...]

    23. Camel Rider This may contain spoilers.Camel Rider is a book about two friends called Walid and Adam. Who meet because a war breaks out and they find each other in the desert. Adam speaks only English and Walid speaks only Arabic but they somehow learn to understand each other.I thought it was ok because some of the parts were a bit unbelievable. I learned how people from different cultures can get along even though they don’t speak the same language. They also do well to survive in the harsh d [...]

    24. The author of my book is Prue Mason and my book is called Camel Rider it is a wonderful story that talks from two different people perspectives there names are Adam and Walid. In the middle east all the people are moving because war has broken free. Adam gets left behind due to what he believed was gonna happen didn't happen and know he's left to find his way back .On his journey he gets lost and meets a boy called Walid. They struggle together to find there way home and to trust each other on i [...]

    25. Written from a stereotypical, western outlook on the lives of Arabs and expats in the gulf region. The only good part about the book was the alternating chapters, exploring the relationship between two boys who come from different worlds and how they come to an understanding and save each other's lives. But still, Walid's chapters were almost unbearable because of the writing style. Nothing's worse than spelling out an accent. Not to mention most of the Arabic words are incorrect. Several paragrap [...]
